For the last three years, “Copilot” has been the buzzword.
The metaphor was comforting: You are the pilot; the AI is your assistant. It suggests code, and you hit Tab.

Agentic IDEs (like Antigravity and Windsurf) are proactive.
* Copilot: “Here is a suggestion for the next line.”
* Agent: “I noticed you added a new API endpoint. I went ahead and updated the documentation, added a unit test, and created a frontend type definition for it. Want me to commit?”

This isn't assistance; it's delegation.

From “Chat” to “Work”

Copilots live in a chat sidebar. You talk to them.
Agents live in the environment. They work alongside you.

The Economic Shift

Why pay $20/month for a tool that saves you 20% of your typing time, when you can pay for a tool that does 80% of your work?
Companies will shift budgets from “Developer Productivity Tools” (Copilots) to “Digital Workers” (Agents).

Conclusion
